In order to improve the concealment, safety and tactical performance of submarine, it is necessary to increase the submergence depth of submarine as much as possible. Generally speaking, the pressure of water increases by one atmospheric pressure (10Pa) for every 10m increase in the depth of sea water. Therefore, the deeper the submarine goes, the greater the pressure of deep water on the submarine pressure hull. Increasing the thickness of pressure hull steel plate can bear more pressure, but it will lead to the increase of submarine weight, the loss of spare buoyancy and the reduction of bearing capacity. Therefore, improving the yield strength of submarine steel is the only feasible scheme.
The yield strength of submarine pressure hull steel is closely related to submarine submergence depth. The higher the yield strength of submarine pressure hull steel is, the lighter the weight of pressure hull is, the greater the bearing capacity of submarine is, the deeper the submergence depth is, and the better the concealment of submarine is, which can significantly improve the technical and tactical performance of submarine.
