What is the purpose of AR500 steel plate annealing

The purpose of complete annealing of AR500 steel plate is to improve the bad structure, such as coarse grain, widmanstatten structure (coarse ferrite with directional growth accompanied by coarse grain) or banded structure, in the process of hot forging, hot rolling, welding or casting due to high temperature, so as to refine the grain, improve the mechanical properties, and reduce the stress and hardness.

The diffusion annealing of AR500 steel plate is to reduce the inhomogeneity of chemical composition and microstructure of metal ingot, casting or forging billet, heat it to high temperature and keep it for a long time, so as to make the elements in steel plate fully diffuse. Due to the long heating cycle and high temperature of diffusion annealing, although the composition of the steel is uniform, the microstructure of the steel plate is seriously overheated, the grains grow up violently, and the toughness and plasticity are poor. Therefore, a complete annealing or normalizing is needed to refine the grains. Diffusion annealing consumes a lot of energy and causes serious material burning. It is often used in ingots, casting and forging billets with high quality requirements.
