Corten steel or weathering steel is a corrosion resistant material. When left uncoated, corten steel forms a protective layer on the outer surface that protects corten steel from acidic environments and corrosion.
Corten steel is the carbon steel that added with Copper and Chrome elements, these elements exist to bring corten steel anti-corrosion performances. The anti-corrosion resistance of corten steel is 2 to 8 times better than that of common carbon steel, paintability is 1.5 to 10 times.
Corten steel is available in steel sheets, steel plates, steel coils, angle steel, channel steel, steel pipes and tubes, and is available in the applicable equivalent ASTM specifications of ASTM A588, A242, A606 type 4, A847 and A709 grade 50W.
