The difference between Corten steel and weathering steel

Corten steel is a foreign name for weathering steel. It belongs to low-alloy high-strength weathering steel. It is made of ordinary steel with a small amount of corrosion-resistant elements such as copper and nickel. Corten steel has strong weather resistance.

Corten steel has excellent resistance to sulfide ions and corrosion. It is widely used to resist the condensation and corrosion of sulfur-containing flue gas. It is mostly used in economizer air preheaters, heat exchangers and evaporators working in high-sulfur flue gas.

Weathering steel originated from Corten steel in North America, and it is called weathering steel in China, also known as corrosion-resistant steel. Weathering steel belongs to low-alloy series steel, which is a steel grade between ordinary steel and stainless steel. Weathering steel is made of plain carbon steel with a small amount of copper, nickel and other corrosion-resistant elements. Weathering steel has the characteristics of high-quality steel such as high temperature, fatigue resistance, corrosion, toughness, welding and cutting. It is one of the series of steel grades at the forefront of world super steel technology.

Weathering steel and Corten steel have different uses. Weathering steel can be free of painting, and can be used for urban steel structure high-rise residential buildings, office buildings, public buildings, villa-style housing construction, conference center construction, steel structure rural housing, etc.
