The corten B weathering steel material is weather resistant steel with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance. The min. yield strength of corten B weathering steel material is 355 MPa and 345MPa based on different thickness. Corten B steel is better suited for heavy and load bearing structures.
The corten B weathering steel material can form its own protective layer when exposed to atmospheric elements. Normally, the natural finish of corten B steel does not require any form of maintenance such as painting, which makes corten B weathering steel material a highly cost effective alternative to other structural steels.
However, painting and maintenance will be required for corten B weathering steel material if the structure is continually wet as a protective layer will not form. An good example is where the base of the structure meets with the ground or is partially submerged.
