SS400 steel is Japanese steel material under standard JIS G3101. SS400 steel is used in buildings, bridges, ships, rail vehicles and other structures with suitable SS400 steel mechanical properties and performance.
SS400 steel mechanical properties, SS400 steel properties:
Grade | Yield Strength min. (Mpa) | Tensile Strength MPa | Elongation min. % | Impact Resistance min.[J]
Thickness <16 mm | Thickness ≥16mm | Thickness <5mm | Thickness 5-16mm | Thickness ≥16mm
SS400 | 245 | 235 | 400-510 | 21 | 17 | 21 | - |
SS400 steel mechanical properties: SS400 steel tensile strength is expressed in Newton per millimeters and it must be at-least 400 N/mm2 (MPa) and maximum can be 510 N/mm2 (MPa). SS400 steel yield strength is minimum 205 to minimum 245 N/mm2 (MPa) depending on the thickness. SS400 steel yield strength for thickness below 16 mm is minimum 245 N/mm2 (MPa) whereas for higher gauges above 100 mm is minimum 205 N/mm2 (MPa). SS400 steel elongation varies with the ranges of thickness. The minimum percentage ranges for SS400 steel elongation is 17% for thickness till 16 mm, 21% for thickness till 40 mm, and 23% for thickness greater than 50 mm.
