Corten A steel and Corten B material are among the most popular types of weathering steel.
With high phosphorus content, Corten A steel offers excellent resistance to atmospheric corrosion. Corten A steel is widely used for bridges, trains, cars, trucks and industrial facilities and so on. Corten A steel can resist corrosion for longer periods when compared to general carbon steel, even if not painted.
In structures subjected to heavy loads or low temperatures, there is an increased risk of brittle fracture. The good notch toughness of Corten B material makes Corten B steel highly suitable for demanding applications. However, a slightly reduced resistance to corrosion must be accepted with Corten B material.
The top layer of Corten A steel and Corten B material reacts with atmospheric elements to form a rust coloured protective layer. That not only makes Corten A steel and Corten B material virtually maintenance free but also provides them a pleasing and consistent finish.
