Characteristics and application of spring steel

The main alloying elements of spring steel are Si, Mn, Cr, etc. Spring is used under impact, vibration or periodic alternating stress, so spring steel is required to have high elasticity, high fatigue strength and high impact toughness. It is also required to have high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance when it is used as spring in mechanical, electrical and precision instruments.

Spring steel is usually rolled into flat, wire or bar, and then made into flat spring, spiral spring and various kinds of spring. Strict decarburization of spring steel is required. The basic standard of spring steel is GB / T 1222. The standard of spring steel strip includes GB / T 3279, GB / T 4231, YB / T 5063, etc. Similar standards in foreign countries include ASTM A576, ASTM A322; JIS G4802, JIS G4202; DIN 17221; BS 970; NFA 35-571, ROCT 14959; ISO 683-14, etc.
