Bridge steel A709 grade 50 heat treatment

Bridge steel A709 grade 50 is known for its corrosion resistance. A709 grade 50 steel is widely used in construction machinery, mining machinery, truck, bridges, pressure vessels, structures, building etc.. In order to improve properties, A709 grade 50 heat treatment is necessary.

Bridge steel A709 grade 50 is usually quenched and tempered. A709 grade 50 heat treatment shall be performed by the manufacturer and shall consist of heating the steel to not less than 1650oF [900℃], quenching it in water or oil, and tempering it at not less than 1100oF [590℃]. The A709 grade 50 heat treatment temperatures shall be reported on the test certificate.
