The usual delivery status is as follows:
Quenching: a process of rapid cooling after heating to a temperature above the phase change point. Increase the hardness of the material, but reduce the toughness.
Normalization: normal cooling (air) after heating up to the phase change temperature.
Annealing: slow down after heating to a temperature above the phase change point. Eliminate quenching effect, eliminate stress, homogeneous composition.
Tempering: after quenching, then heated to a certain temperature (lower than the quenching temperature), heat preservation, and then cooling. Uniform composition, slightly reduce hardness, greatly improve toughness.
Generally speaking, annealing and normalizing are needed first, and the influence of primary heat treatment is eliminated. Then quench and then temper.
